With roughly two weeks left until the 2014 season starts, buyers are finding it harder and harder to locate fresh scallops, and with a potential reduction in the upcoming harvest, prices are already nearing record highs.
At nearly $16 (€11.63) per pound currently, fresh scallops could see a slight dip in prices when this season kicks off March 1, industry sources told IntraFish.
Depending on weather conditions and how many boats start the season the price for fresh scallops could drop as much as $1.50
