The ASC will serve as the holding organization for certifications of farmed seafood that come through standards being developed by the Aquaculture Dialogues, which are ongoing now in a dozen species.
As standards for each particular species come online, the process of applying for and managing use of an eco-mark will be handled by the ASC.
ASC says the standards being developed by the World Wildlife Fund-led dialogues will be more credible than competing standards because they are being developed in accordance with The International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labeling Alliance’s (ISEAL) “Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards.”
