Greece-based sea bass and sea bream producer Nireus on Tuesday purchased a 17.9 percent share of Norway-based Marine Farms. The NOK 149.5 million (€18.5 million/$25.1 million) deal makes Nireus the company's largest shareholder.

Marin Vekst, previously the largest shareholder in Marine Farms, sold its holdings Tuesday. The next largest shareholders behind Nireus are IOT Holdings, a Norwegian investment firm, and Ewos, Norway-based aquaculture producer Cermaq's fish feed subsidary.

Marine Farms CEO Bjorn Myrseth told IntraFish he did not know the name of the company seeking to make the acquisition, or which shareholders the company approached.
