The fish, also known as farmed yellowtail, will be recommended back to the Seafood Watch list once it returns to market, Geoff Shester, senior science manager of Seafood Watch, told IntraFish.
"We did something similar, removing Pacific salmon from our pocket guides when the commercial salmon season was shut down," he said. "We will be reposting a recommendation for this product once it becomes available in the marketplace again."
Kona Blue Water Farms, which grows the fish in offshore net pens off the west coast of the island of Hawaii, says kampachi will be back in the market this spring.
