A Web site presenting detailed data of EU fisheries subsidies paid between 1994 and 2006 was launched Thursday.
Fishsubsidy.org allows decision makers and the public to see how and where EU fishing subsidies have been spent, and exposes a clear link between payments and fishing overcapacity, its creators say.
The site is the work of transparency group EU Transparency using data secured from the European Commission by powerful NGO the Pew Environment Group, and is a cleverly-timed contribution to the reform process of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
