UK seafood processing sector remains stable despite market challenges

Employment in the UK processing sector has increased since 2012, according to a Census Survey published in Seafish’s 2014 Seafood processing report, despite the number of processing units dropping slightly across the country.

The survey results, which include processing of all seafood species including salmon, reveal United Kingdom-wide employment increased slightly despite slightly fewer units.

In particular, the growth of the salmon industry over the past few years is evidenced by a 28 percent increase in employment in salmon processing units since 2012.
