UK scallops seem to be in a strong position going into the future, as firm prices and a pending Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification are set to give the fishery a further boost.
“Scallop prices are remaining firm. Quantities aren’t as high as they were last year, but that was to be expected as last year was an exceptional year for scallops,” John Hermes, secretary at the UK Scallop Association, told IntraFish.
For three years, the Scallop Association has been working with Bangor University to secure MSC accreditation.
