A legal challenge to the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' (DEFRA’s) reallocation of quota from English producer's organizations to the UK under-10 meter pool came before the High Court last week.

Three days of complex legal argument saw the issue thrashed out in detail, with much technical legal debate relating to case law. No decision is expected for at least six weeks.

DEFRA told producer organizations in 2012 it would reallocate what it said was unused quota from eight stocks during a 2007-2010 reference period from the producer organizations to the under-10 meter pool.
