You might be forgiven for thinking that scallops are a marginal fishery, butthink again. Scallops are a significant business, and Pecten maximus,the species found in the English Channel -- that strip of water snaking betweensouthern England and northern France -- provides a living for a great manyfishermen and goes only part of the way to meeting growing consumer demand forscallops.
It’sonly a couple of years since French and English fishermen were last atloggerheads over the Channel scallop fishery as tensions boiled over.
