Forty French scallopers attacked five UK scallopers fishing in the Bay de Seine  in international waters off the coast of Normandy, France on Oct. 8 to prevent them from fishing.

The UK boats were fishing legally outside the French 12-mile limit but the French scallopers surrounded individual boats dropped nets and ropes in the water to try and foul their propellers and prevent them from fishing. They also threw rocks at crews and fired flares at the boats. The UK boats were forced to stop fishing because of the harassment and fear of collisions.
