The Embassy of Iceland in London and Iceland’s Ministry of Industries and Innovation held a briefing meeting in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom (UK) on Nov. 21 for the local seafood and fishing industry stakeholders to drum up support in the processing sector that heavily relies on Icelandic imports.
Iceland's representatives -- comprising Benedikt Jonsson, Ambassador of Iceland to the United Kingdom, and Sigurgeir Thorgeirsson, Iceland chief negotiator on mackerel fishing -- argued that Icelandic fishing imports plays an "essential role in the Humberside economy, with 300,000,000 pounds of Icelandic seafood generating millions of pounds sterling in trade."
