The test – the first of its kind for shrimp – was developed along with Applied Food Technologies, LLC (AFT), a molecular diagnostics company engaged in the research, development and commercialization of products and services for the food industry.

“We’ve seen this issue with other species,” WASI spokeswoman Jenny Schmitt told IntraFish. “This is our effort to be proactive in the shrimp industry.”

Eddie Gordon, executive director of WASI, said the shrimp industry wants consumers to be assured that when they select certified Wild American shrimp off a menu or at a grocery store, they’re getting the real thing.

“Within
