The U.S. brought in 59.4 million kilograms of salmon through March 31, a 3.9 percent drop from the 61.7 million kilos shipped in 2009's first quarter. The value of the 2010 shipments was $438.1 million (€347 million), 5.1 percent higher than 2009.
Norway replaced Chile as the leading U.S. supplier of fresh farmed salmon fillets, shipping 6.8 million kilos worth $65.7 million (€52 million), up from 2.3 million kilos and $19.3 million (€15.3 million) last year, according to numbers released Wednesday by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
