Newcastle, England-based Findus Ltd. -- independent from Sweden-based Findus since mid-2005 -- pulled all salmon skewer products from sale after the products tested positive for the dye crystal violet, a substance banned for use as a veterinary medicine and not allowed in food in the European Union.
The U.K. Veterinary Medicines Directorate made the finding from a sample of fish on retail sale as part of an extended monitoring and control project testing for crystal violet in salmon.
