A number of food giants, including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's and Tesco, already took action to cut artificial trans fats that are linked to the increase of "bad" cholesterol levels and a greater risk of coronary heart disease.
Now a survey by the Sunday Herald reveals other major supermarkets, including Morrisons and Somerfield, are working toward cutting out artificial trans fats by next year.
The findings come after New York became the first city in the United States to ban trans fats in restaurants.
