Standing allows participants to propose witnesses, make oral submissions at hearings and cross-examine witnesses.

The governments of Canada and British Columbia, the Pacific Salmon Commission, B.C. Salmon Farmers Association, Seafood Producers Association of B.C., and Rio Tinto Alcan were among the groups authorized individual standing.

Others, including aboriginal tribal groups and fishing societies along the Fraser, environmentalists and sport and commercial fishers, were awarded shared standings and will have to share funding resources available through the commission. Among those given a chance to participate are Alexandra Morton, the David Suzuki Foundation and the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform.
