A reporter with Atlanta, Ga.-based Channel 2 News investigated the use of carbon monoxide (CO) on tilapia fillets, prompted by a concern from a viewer, according to the station's website.
The shopper called into the station after noticing CO listed as one of the ingredients in Hiyang Seafood's Ocean Market brand tilapia.
Inland Seafood COO Bill Demmond noted to the station that the use of CO-treated tilapia is a controversial topic in the industry.
"I personally call it tailpipe tilapia," Demmond told Channel 2 News.
