Tuna prices began to rise in May due to upcoming fishing bans in the eastern Pacific that will reduce global supply for the canning industry, according to a new U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) market report released this month.
“Canned tuna prices have been low in recent months, but are likely to follow raw material prices upward very soon. Sustainability is a major concern for the global tuna industry, which is trying to make its voice heard,” the Globefish report said.
