The species rainbow trout originates from Northern Hemisphere (the West Pacific and around Alaska). The trick is to get it to thrive in a tropical land in the Southern Hemisphere. The location being the sub-tropical area between Sâo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In the mountains at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the water temperatures are just right. The fish were housed in net pens in fresh water and feed came from, among othes, the Norwegian feed manufacturer Skretting.
It was the Japanese who initiated trout farming in Brazilin the 1970s, in land-based facilities.
