Looking for new opportunities to grow tilapia following Ecuador's massive shift to shrimp production, Tropical Aquaculture Products joined forces with Mexico-based Acuicola Gemso and are close to getting a farm certified by the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
The processing facility is equipped to process deep-skinned, fully trimmed tilapia fillets as well as whole fish and construction has begun on a new, state-of-the-art processing facility, scheduled to open early next year.
With both plants located less than 16 hours from Los Angeles by truck, Tropical can deliver fresh product straight to the consumer, a spokesperson said.
