Ecuador-based AquaMar scored highly in its BAP certification, meaning Tropical’s product is certified under the scheme, according to sales manager Laurent Metivier of the U.S.-based company’s European arm.
“It passed the certification with a score of 99 [out of] 100,” Metivier told IntraFish. “We have another farm which went through the audit a little later on, so they don’t have the certificate, but they should have soon,” said Metivier.
AquaMar farms around 15,500 metric tons of tilapia each year in its 588 hectares of ponds.
