Delfini, who began Tropical with John Schramm in 1997, had been suffering from a series of illnesses, and ultimately died from uncurable cancer.
He was remembered as a pioneer in the farming of tilapia and a leader in the effort to get standards in place for the species.
In the early years, "it was a classic scenario: he farmed it and I couldn't sell it; only to be followed by, I sold it and he didn't have it," said Schramm, president of Tropical.
