While international companies are flocking to the Chinese market to grab a slice of growing demand for imported seafood, Trident Seafood is still in "research mode," said Jeff Welbourn, director for the company's southeast Asia business office and Qingdao operations.

"We're not jumping in with any product yet," he told IntraFish at the China Seafood and Fisheries Expo last week.

"We're looking at how we get into this market with our integrity as one of our marketable attributes so that we can get to the point where our respect for the Chinese consumer is part of the brand recognition whether it's retail or foodservice."
