Dowd began his career in the food products business in 1973 with Swift and Co. in their fresh meats business. In 1979, he moved to Tyson Foods, where he spent the next 20 years holding several senior level sales, marketing and operations positions, and eventually was named senior vice president and general manager of Tyson’s foodservice division.

He joined ConAgra Foods in 1999 as the president and COO of its foodservice poultry company.

Dowd has been working as a business advisor for Trident the last two years, and will concentrate his efforts on the company's domestic seafood business.
