Bellevue, Wash.-based Tri Marine -- one of the world’s largest tuna suppliers -- in August announced the formation of Baja Marine Foods S.A.P.I. de CV, which will be involved in the fishing, procurement, processing and marketing of sardines and other seafood products.

The formal groundbreaking for an expansion of the Ensenada, Mexico, facility took place in mid-October, and will include adding freezing capacity and other technological innovations to boost productivity and allow for production of value-added seafood lines.



Owned in conjunction with the Gutierrez family, Tri Marine Chairman and CEO Renato Curto told IntraFish the company plans to double production of sardines at the plant from the present level of 50 tons a day to 100 tons a day within six months, and then to double production to 200 tons a day within 18 months.
