The deal, announced Tuesday, brings Biomar's fish feed share close to that of No. 2 supplier, Cermaq-owned Ewos, and puts some 80 percent of the world's salmon feed supply in the hands of three companies.

Biomar will acquire Provimi's production facilities in Horsens, Denmark; Duenas, Spain; and most importantly, Chile, where Provimi operated a 50-50 joint venture with salmon farmer AquaChile. AquaChile will have first right of refusal on the joint venture stake.

Provimi's fish feed revenue reached €175 million ($257 million) in 2006, 55 percent of which came from Chile.
