On Jan. 21, the European Commission decided to introduce a five-year period that entailed a punitive duty of €2.80 ($3.58) per kilo for Norwegian salmon. The EU maintains that Norwegian exporters are being dumped on the European market.
Anachronism
The situation in the salmon market now compared to when the EU implemented the punitive measures has changed so much that it should pave the way for the EU to remove the trade barrier that the minimum import price (MIP) represents.
It is blatantly clear Norwegian salmon is destined to sell at far higher prices than that of the MIP.
