The biggest increase was for frozen tilapia, according to statistics released Tuesday by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
Overall, the United States bought $389 million (€293 million) of tilapia from other countries through October, compared to $312 million (€235 million ) last year, a 24.6 percent increase.
That's 125 million kilos of tilapia this year, compared to 105.5 million kilos last year -- a 18.6 percent increase.
The U.S. imported $193 million (€145 million) worth of frozen tilapia fillets during the first 10 months -- a 35 percent increase.
