Tilapia remained a major import species for the United States in the seven months through July, but figures were noticeably down compared with the year before, according to new data released by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

In the first seventh months of the year, the United States imported 116,426 metric tons of tilapia worth $463 million (€415.2 million), down 9.8 percent and 21 percent respectively from the 129,090 metric tons worth $586.4 million (€525.8 million) the country imported in 2015.
