I expect this will be a trend that catches on in 2011 with other restaurant chains – and that will cause a ripple effect likely to impact prices in the supermarket sector.

For all the talk of the economy doing better, fact is most working-class people don’t see those positive signs – most aren’t getting raises, and the money they take home in their paychecks isn’t stretching as far as it used to.

Companies such as Red Lobster are smart to recognize this, and even if it means lower revenue for them and their shareholders, it’s a good idea to build up some goodwill with an American population that is angry and looking to take that anger out on anyone – or any company – it feels is giving them a raw deal.
