It has just returned from fishing hake off the U.S. west coast, and will leave in a few days to run up and participate in the Alaska pollock "B" season.
The Golden Alaska, which joined the Alaska fleet nearly 25 years ago, has traveled to these fishing grounds countless times, but this time the processing vessel is doing things very different than it's done before.
A complete overhaul of the ship’s processing factory last year transformed the vessel from a “surimi boat” to a diversified fish factory that utilizes 100 percent of the pollock it catches, transforming it into fillet blocks, minced fish, surimi, fishmeal, and fish oil.
