The general economic recovery led to brisk shrimp trading in the first half of 2010, and demand generally exceeded supply, allowing prices to move up sharply, according to a report issued this month by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Prices were likely to increase to some extent in the coming months, and were expected to stabilize at a high level the last part of the year. Shrimp importers and traders in the main markets were unable to build up inventories, as the product moved quickly, the FAO/Globefish report said.
