Thai officials thought they had done enough to avoid falling to "Tier-3" of this year's Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Report, but US officials told IntraFish "the bad outweighed the good."
US Secretary of State John Kerry announced Friday that Thailand and six other countries -- Afghanistan, Barbados, Chad, Maldives, Malaysia, and Venezuela -- were all downgraded to Tier-3, the lowest of the ranking systems. The newest additions join 16 other countries in Tier-3 status including North Korea, Iran, China and Russia.
