Thai Union will increase its shrimp production around 5 percent in 2017, narrowing its initial predictions of 10 to 15 percent growth, Preerasak Boonmechote, shrimp unit managing director at the group, told IntraFish during a recent visit to one of its plants.

It's a pattern reflected by other Thai producers, who had expected strong growth, but have been impacted by early rains.

Normally, the rainy season in Thailand runs from July until September, but this year "very unusually" the rains began about a month ago said Boonmechote.
