Stores in southwest England will only stock fish caught under the RFS scheme in a new trial, covering sardines, sprats and scallops at fresh fish counters.
The announcement follows Tesco’s decision to support the scheme with an investment of £25,000 (€28,500/$39,600) to sponsor local vessels.
“We are excited that this project is under way. This is a great opportunity for us to show that we are sourcing our seafood responsibly and to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our customers at a local level,” said Jo Wren, southwest regional marketing manager.
