Representatives from Teamsters Local 59 greeted show attendants at Hynes Convention Center with flyers that read in bold letters: 'American Seafoods is unhealthy for New England families'.

“They won’t talk to us,” Local 59 spokesman David Cabral said of the picketing. “So maybe we can get them to talk to us at the seafood show – just to make people aware.”

Benefit, pay cuts at issue The union has said that the new labour contract between American Seafoods and New Bedford Seafoods processing workers, implemented at the beginning of the year, cut worker wages by $1 per hour, cut back on pensions and moved employees’ health insurance under a new programme that raised family insurance payments from $24 per month to $700 per month.

“It
