FPI spokesman Russ Carrigan told IntraFish both sides met Aug. 21-22, then collective bargaining resumed Monday, continued all this week, and another break is likely after Friday.
The 2,000 Newfoundlanders employed by FPI have been without a contract for more than a year. The company is proposing cutting wages after struggling in recent years with stiff overseas competition. To cut its losses, FPI put its groundfish operations on hold until it can find an economic model to make the business profitable.
