Tainted Marine Harvest salmon reached U.S., Japan

The Marine Harvest-produced salmon, which sparked a huge recall in the United Kingdom in mid-February, was also distributed to the United States, Japan, France, Germany, Ireland, Hong Kong and Lebanon a spokesman for the FSA told IntraFish Thursday.

The FSA said it has notified relevant food safety agencies in those countries, though its unclear if those countries have or will attempt to initiate any kind of product recall.

Marine Harvest spokseman Arne Hjeltnes told IntraFish in late February the company was "absolutely confident" the contaminated salmon, which was produced in Scotland, had been contained.
