It has long been a mystery to many in the seafood industry that the environmental movement has so vehemently protested against farmed fish when the real major environmental challenges are illegal fishing and the fact that vital fish stocks are in danger of extinction, largely due to over-fishing.
There have also been aquaculture skeptics in Sweden, so it was indeed encouraging when a TV crew from the national Swedish TV channel Sveriges Televisjon, SVT, after having visited a facility for farming of cod, Helgelandtorsk, recommended Swedish consumers eat farmed cod.
