Data from the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) shows that farms put some 18.3 million salmon to sea in November this year --an increase of 98 percent on last year’s 9.2 million.

This is a surprising revelation, said FHL technical director for statistics and market Jon Arne Grottum.

“We don’t know whether there has been any incorrect reporting [from the producers], but there has certainly not been any indication of that,” Grottum told IntraFish.

“We’re surprised about the increase in numbers released. Judging by the figures for ova inlays there was nothing to indicate we would have such an increase.
