A report on subsidies to the French fishing industry shows it survives on subsidies has been suppressed for two years.
The report, by the French Court of Auditors, has just been seen by a French weekly magazine. It paints a damning picture of poor management of the industry by the French government.
The leaking of the report to the press last week coincided with an important EU Parliament vote on subsidies to the EU fishing industry as part of the new European Marine Fisheries Fund (EMFF) that will replace the existing EFF in 2014.
