Asian and Japanese demand is still good for Norwegian mackerel, and indications from the market are also relatively positive ahead of the new season for Norwegian winter-spawning (NVG) herring, according to Rolf Kristian Vaage, sales director at Pelagia.
There's no reason for concern about the massive catches of mackerel that have been landed in recent weeks, he said, or prospects of NVG herring taking over the scene directly after the mackerel season.
“We don’t think we will have major problems for selling the mackerel that’s already fished," he told IntraFish sister publication Fiskeribladet Fiskaren.
