An industry insider in Vigo told Fishing News International “direct action” by angry steel workers may take place at WFE, which will run from Sept. 16-19 in Spain’s premier fishing city.

Thousands of workers filled the streets of Vigo in June and July during a strike that lasted an unprecedented 23 days. Unions representing around 30,000 metal workers are fighting for better wages, and disputes have been raging for more than three years.

The latest strike virtually shut down the city center, with 1,000 anti-disturbance police deployed to try and keep the peace.
