Spain's Eschebastar Group is taking a lead in Spanish tropical tuna fisheries and is now in the later stages of evaluation by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for its skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna fishery.

The year-long process is currently at the client and peer review stage, and a draft report will be sent to independent experts for assessment soon, which is the fourth of the seven stages.

This is the first Spanish fishery on tropical tuna to submit itself for full MSC evaluation in the expectation the company’s Indian Ocean catches of bigeye, skipjack and yellowfin, both free school and FAD-caught, will all be able to be sold carrying the blue MSC label.
