Spain is the world’s third-largest producer of fish and seafood preserves, behind China and Thailand.

The country’s production of such preserves generated almost €1.3 billion ($1.9 million), 3.6 percent more than in 2007, according to figures from the Spanish National Preserve and Seafood Manufacturers Association (ANFACO).

In volume terms, the sector produced 347,390 metric tons in 2008, an increase of 3.3 percent, said ANFACO.

Tuna and related species were the main products produced by the seafood preserves industry, representing 65 percent of the total volume and 51.7
