With a new government intent on closing loopholes in the fisheries inspection and controls system, the Spanish fishing industry is set on the path of shedding its "pirate" image, an industry insider told IntraFish.
"The new government that came in last year has put in place a strict inspection and controls system, which will allow new management rules to be implemented effectively," said Javier Garat (pictured above), secretary of the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (Cepesca).
"We are waiting to see the results of these measures," Garat told IntraFish.
