The deal confirms signs that P&P and Samherji have embared on a shopping spree to boost their volumes and quotas. In recent weeks UK Fisheries has also taken over Euronor, a French saithe company, and Pesquera Ancora, a Spanish cod fishing group, while P&P acquired a large pelagic factory in the Faroe Islands.
However, the investment comes at particularly dire times for Compagnie des Peches Saint Malo. As reported in December, the 90 percent cut in blue whiting quotas for 2011 has plunged the family-owned business into a crisis.
