An unknown company has made a "firm offer" to purchase Bumble Bee Foods, North America's largest producer and marketer of canned tuna and sardines, for an undisclosed amount, according to an IntraFish source.
"It was a condition to release financial records," the source said.
How close a deal is, however is unclear at this time.
CEO Chris Lischewski, told IntraFish he could neither confirm or deny the tuna giant's impending sale. Until such a deal is struck between a buyer and Bumble Bee's owner, private equity firm Lion Captial, Lischewski said, the company is focused on potential acquisitions of their own, researching sellers and processors.
