The Dutch division of the €14.7 billion ($22 billion) turnover multinational company said the volume of seafood used in its catering had increased to about a fifth of all protein served, fuelled by what it believes is an upward trend in Dutch fish consumption.

Sodexo became the first caterer in the Netherlands to gain Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification in April 2009, allowing the company to display the logo on its products.

However, while the introduction of MSC products into its catering ranges has not directly lead to increased fish consumption or volumes sold, the company told IntraFish it has increased the amount of seafood sold in line with a perceived increase in consumption among the Dutch population.
