Fishing conditions in the Copper River the past few openings have far exceeded expectations, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) told IntraFish.
According to gillnet area management biologist Jeremy Botz, more than 1.12 million sockeye and 7,900 king salmon have been harvested after the weekend's 48-hour opening of 247,000 sockeye were caught. That puts the harvest to date at 111.1 percent higher than the same time in 2013.
Total harvests for sockeye are 56.9 percent higher than projections prior to the Copper River season's opening, he said.
