Fishing conditions in the Copper River the past few openings have far exceeded expectations, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) told IntraFish.

According to gillnet area management biologist Jeremy Botz, more than 1.12 million sockeye and 7,900 king salmon have been harvested after the weekend's 48-hour opening of 247,000 sockeye were caught. That puts the harvest to date at 111.1 percent higher than the same time in 2013.
